Although its summers aren\u2019t as hot as Calgary\u2019s, they are pleasantly warm. The city enjoys an average of 326 sunny days per year, with very few rainy spells. Residents are well aware that over half of the daylight hours will likely be sunny. This massive retail and entertainment complex spans 490,000 square meters and now ranks as the fifth-largest mall in North America. Offering more than 800 stores, over 100 dining options, and numerous attractions, this mall is a must-visit destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The West Edmonton Mall includes themed parks, a large cinema, mini-golf courses, and an indoor skating rink at the Ice Palace. Opened in 1913, this impressive structure features three sets of tracks on its upper deck. Steam trains of the Canadian Pacific Railway once used the central track, while the outer tracks served streetcars. Today, the High Level Bridge Streetcar remains a popular attraction, taking passengers on historical journeys through Edmonton and offering scenic views of the North Saskatchewan River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edmonton also boasts more parks per capita than any other Canadian city, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The North Saskatchewan River Valley park system includes 20 parks, collectively 22 times larger than New York City\u2019s Central Park. Visitors can explore 22 ravines and 11 lakes, enjoying activities like hiking, running, skiing, or ice skating depending on the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rat-Free_Status\"><\/span>Rat-Free Status<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For over 70 years, Alberta has remained free of rat infestations thanks to an effective rodent control program. As a result, Edmonton is pest-free, and Alberta is the only Canadian province that can make this claim. The region even received recognition as the largest populated area free of rats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a rat invasion in the 1950s, the Alberta government implemented an aggressive rat control program. Early methods involved the use of arsenic, which initially caused harm to pets but was later replaced by safer practices.
